OCOP — Where the countryside comes to shine

Thursday, 14/5/2026, 10:42 (GMT+7)
logo OCOP is more than a program for ranking products. It is a journey to awaken the soul of the countryside. Behind every star lies a world of identity, memory, and the quiet creativity of local communities. To imagine OCOP as a beauty pageant finale is to see it from another angle entirely: every product, like every person, deserves its own moment to shine. In that space, value is no longer measured by quality alone, but also by emotion, by memory, and by trust.

OCOP - WHERE THE COUNTRYSIDE COMES TO SHINE

In the villages of Viet Nam, agricultural products have never existed merely to be eaten or sold. Behind a grain of rice, a jar of fish sauce, a packet of tea, there is always a story — of soil and rain, of human hands, of generations who have lived close to the land. In the old countryside markets, people exchanged more than goods. They exchanged affection, familiarity, and faith in one another.

OCOP today should carry that same spirit. If it stops at stars and rankings, products may easily become nothing more than beautifully packaged commodities without a soul. The true essence of OCOP lives elsewhere: in identity, in storytelling, in the imprint of a community upon what it creates. That is why, beyond the official rankings, there should also be honors reserved for singular and human values — much like the special titles in a beauty pageant.

When every product takes the stage

In every beauty contest, beyond the crown itself, audiences always wait for the special awards: Best traditional dress, Miss congeniality, Miss charity. Those titles create texture and color. They allow each contestant to be remembered in her own way.

OCOP is much the same.

Each product is a contestant carrying the face of its village onto the stage. And when it steps forward, it is not simply presenting its appearance. It is speaking — through its story, its values, its dreams.

Beyond the crown

“Best packaging design”: Like the award for “Best traditional dress”, packaging becomes the cultural attire that reveals the spirit of a locality.

“Best storytelling product”: Like “Miss charity”, a product that knows how to tell its story can reach the hearts of consumers.

“Most nutritious product”: Much like an award for vitality and fitness, this is a reminder of agriculture’s role in nourishing community well-being.

“Highest revenue product”: Like a title honoring business excellence, strong revenue reflects genuine appeal in the marketplace.

“Best use of indigenous resources”: Like a traditional costume performance, this honors products that preserve the soul of the homeland through native ingredients.

“Strongest community participation”: Like “Miss congeniality”, this recognizes products shaped by many hands and shared collective spirit.

“Most promising product”: Like a young talent award, it celebrates products still in their early steps, yet filled with possibility.

What these honors truly celebrate

They honor diversity: Every product deserves to be seen. No one leaves unnoticed.

They awaken emotion: People remember a product through its story and distinction, just as audiences remember beauty queens through the titles that made them unique.

They inspire creativity: Communities become more willing to innovate — creating products that still carry the soul of the countryside while moving in rhythm with modern life.

From ranking stars to a sky of memories

If a beauty pageant is where beauty, talent, and intellect are celebrated, then OCOP is the grand finale for the homeland’s gifts. There, every product carries not only a star of recognition, but also the pride of being crowned in its own way.

And then, OCOP ceases to be merely a classification program. It becomes a cultural festival — where packaging is the áo dài, storytelling is the interview round, quality is talent, and community is compassion.

Most of all, OCOP helps Vietnamese agricultural products be chosen not only with money, but with feeling — with memory, affection, and trust.

In the end, OCOP is no longer just a shining star printed on a package. It becomes a sky filled with the memories and aspirations of every Vietnamese village.
