The program was officially launched in Hanoi on the evening of September 20. Produced by HDTV Viet Nam Reality Television Joint Stock Company, the program is a reality television program distributed on digital media platforms.

According to journalist Nguyen Manh Ha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HDTV Vietnam Reality Television Joint Stock Company, the program is planned as a long-term project with a 10-year vision, focusing on stories about people, hometowns, memories, history, culture and values passed down through generations.

“Back to the roots – Returning to know where we came from” is structured as a journey to places and experiences that shaped each individual. These may include a hometown, family, school, region, teacher, former comrade, entrepreneur, product or memory that has remained an important part of the person’s life.

Each featured person will travel with the production team to places that hold significance in their life, meet people with whom they once shared important experiences, revisit memories and explore the cultural, historical and everyday values of those places.

According to Nguyen Manh Ha, each episode follows a journey tailored to the featured person’s story, built around seven elements: the person, the journey, memories, exploration, experiences, giving back and what remains.

The program will feature leaders, generals, military officers, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, experts and other individuals with distinctive stories.

“Back to the Roots” does not focus solely on a person’s position or achievements, but also looks at the people who helped shape them, experiences from their youth and the places that contributed to who they became. The individual is the starting point, while their roots are the central story.

Another focus of the program is linking each individual’s journey with the wider community.

Depending on the episode, the program may include activities such as paying tribute to people who have made contributions to the country, meeting individuals with special stories, supporting people facing difficult circumstances, connecting with educational initiatives, preserving cultural heritage, introducing distinctive local values and connecting social resources.

Community activities are intended to be presented sincerely and with restraint, in a manner appropriate to each story, rather than turning social activities into a form of publicity.

The first episode of “Back to the roots – Returning to know where we came from” features Dr. Bui Sy Loi, former Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Social Affairs, under the theme “From roots to values given back.”

Through the featured person’s journey, the program revisits milestones that helped shape his life, from his roots and formative years to his years of service and the values he hopes to pass on.

According to Nguyen Manh Ha, the program is planned as a continuous 10-year content series featuring different people, places and perspectives on life in Viet Nam.

He said one of the program’s objectives is to build a television archive documenting Vietnamese people, places and values.

The project will feature people from different generations, various regions and diverse stories, along with community activities and a body of content that can be preserved, developed and distributed over the long term on television and digital platforms.

Regarding distribution, Nguyen Manh Ha said HDTV Viet Nam plans to work with press agencies and media organizations to distribute the program, coordinating to ensure that episodes are released and broadcast in line with the editorial direction, schedules and content objectives of individual channels.

In addition to distribution through suitable television channels, the program is planned for development on HDTV Viet Nam’s digital platforms. As part of its long-term strategy, HDTV Viet Nam also aims to develop a paid television application platform, providing additional distribution channels and opportunities for audiences to access content produced by the company.

A representative of the company said it plans to develop 22 programs based on formats owned by HDTV Vietnam, including “Vietnamese education promotion,” “Craft village chronicles of the coastal region,” “Check-in Viet Nam,” “She is beautiful,” “Feng shui 24 hours,” “Law and life,” “Health every day” and “HDTV Kids – Children’s paradise,” among other content series.

“The message of the program is ‘Return to know where we came from.’ Returning means understanding where we began, who accompanied us along the way and what values shaped us. From there, we can understand how we should live in the present and what we will pass on to the future,” Nguyen Manh Ha said.
