Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed decisions on personnel changes at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Tran Hong Thai, born in 1974 in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province, graduated from a university in Russia and received a doctorate in Earth Sciences and Mathematics from Heidelberg University.
He previously served as Director General of the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology; Deputy Minister of the former Ministry of Science and Technology; Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee; Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term; and Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Under Decision No. 345/QD-TTg dated Feb. 26, 2026, the Prime Minister assigned Tran Hong Thai, a member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Vice President of the academy, to oversee its operations until a new President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is appointed in accordance with regulations.
Under Decision No. 344/QD-TTg dated Feb. 26, 2026, Chau Van Minh, a former member of the Party Central Committee and President of the academy, was relieved of his post to take up another assignment as decided by the competent authority.
Chau Van Minh stepped down as President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to join the executive committee and standing board of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations for the 2025–2030 term and to serve as Secretary of its Party Committee.
