Focus on forest protection and livelihood development

In his opening remarks, Luong Manh Ha highlighted the significance of the traditional spring tree-planting movement initiated by President Ho Chi Minh. He said the program, jointly organized by the commune authorities and the Agriculture and Environment Magazine, aimed to promote environmental protection, sustainable agricultural development, and community well-being.

A key component of the program was the planting of approximately 5,000 Luc Truc bamboo trees in Village 3. The activity is expected to increase tree cover, improve landscape quality, reduce soil erosion, protect water resources, and strengthen climate resilience. In addition to its ecological benefits, Luc Truc bamboo provides economic value through bamboo shoot harvesting, handicraft production, and the development of household and cooperative-based production models.

Ban Lien is a mountainous commune in Lao Cai province with natural landscape advantages and Tay ethnic cultural heritage. The development of a concentrated bamboo-growing area is expected to support eco-tourism and community-based tourism while contributing to greener rural development.

Commune leaders expressed appreciation to supporting organizations and pledged to oversee the planting, care, and protection of the trees. They called on officials, Party members, and residents to actively participate and comply with technical guidelines to ensure the long-term survival and growth of the planted trees.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Dao Xuan Hung emphasized the role of the press in mobilizing social resources to support disadvantaged areas. He said the magazine’s tree-planting initiatives are intended to raise awareness of ecological agriculture linked with environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

He noted that planting 5,000 Luc Truc bamboo trees would contribute to improving livelihoods, enhancing the ecological landscape, and creating additional opportunities for agricultural tourism development.

From an environmental perspective, trees absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, regulate microclimates, and help prevent soil erosion. Economically, bamboo can serve as a source of raw materials and income, contributing to diversified rural livelihoods. Community participation in planting and maintenance is considered essential to ensuring long-term effectiveness.

Ban Lien strengthens forest development efforts

The messeage “Growing green – Nurturing happiness” underscored the link between environmental quality and human well-being. Forest protection, stable water resources, and balanced ecosystems are regarded as foundational to sustainable economic development.

Ban Lien commune is advancing its rural development program. However, steep terrain, landslide risks, and increasingly extreme weather conditions highlight the need to strengthen forest protection and development. Luc Truc bamboo was selected for its suitability to local soil conditions, commercial value, and adaptability.

Each tree planted represents a long-term investment in environmental sustainability and future generations.
