The European Union has officially approved a new law aimed at significantly reducing CO2 emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, including trucks and buses on May 13th.

Iceland has achieved a significant milestone in combating climate change with the inauguration of Mammoth, the world's largest carbon capture facility. Operated by Climeworks, the Swiss-based company known for its innovative carbon capture technology, Mammoth extracts carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and transforms it into stone, representing a monumental step forward in global efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the latest report from Ember, in 2023, strong growth in wind and solar energy drove the share of renewables in the global electricity mix above 30%, with total clean generation nearing 40%. As a result, the carbon intensity of the world’s electricity reached a new record low. However, clean sources were unable to meet all of the rise in demand. A record fall in hydropower exacerbated the shortfall, prompting an increase in fossil generation to bridge the gap. Consequently, total power sector emissions rose to a new record high.

The global trend towards green transformation is gaining momentum, particularly within the manufacturing sector. Plastic manufacturing companies, such as Binh Minh Plastic Joint Stock Company, recognize the growing importance of embracing green and sustainable practices.

On the evening of March 23rd, after a one-hour lights-out initiative in support of Earth Hour 2024 (from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm), a total of 428,000 kWh of electricity was saved nationwide, equivalent to nearly 859 million VND.

On March 21st, the World Bank (WB) informed that Vietnam received $51.5 million for successfully reducing 10.3 million tons of carbon emissions.

Vietnam recognizes that achieving fast and sustainable economic growth while protecting the environment is an essential direction. This was the consensus among experts at the 2023 Green Economy Forum, themed "Net Zero - The Path to Sustainable Development," organized by Saigon Economic Times in collaboration with several organizations on August 18, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City.

On December 14, 2022, the UN General Assembly officially recognized the importance of zero waste initiatives and declared March 30 as International Zero Waste Day, which will be celebrated starting in 2023.
