Tran Hong Thai named President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

The appointment was made under Decision No. 399/QD-TTg signed by the Prime Minister and took effect on March 7, 2026.

Earlier, under Decision No. 345/QD-TTg dated February 26, 2026, the Prime Minister assigned Tran Hong Thai, then Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and a member of the Party Central Committee, to oversee the academy’s operations until the position of President was officially filled in accordance with regulations.

According to Decision No. 344/QD-TTg dated February 26, 2026, Chau Van Minh, a former member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, was relieved of his post to take up another assignment decided by the competent authorities.

Chau Van Minh stepped down as President of the academy to join the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Viet Nam Union of Science and Technology Associations, where he serves as Secretary of the Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

Tran Hong Thai was born in 1974 in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province. He graduated from a university in Russia and earned a PhD in Earth Sciences and Mathematics from Heidelberg University in Germany.

During his career, he has held several senior positions, including Director General of the Viet Nam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration; Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee; Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term; and Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
